sinking into Summer's arms

Hope everyone, from sea to shining sea, had a marvelous Memorial Day weekend.

The heat has arrived here in Tennessee.  Reading a new old Whittier  book of poetry this morning [old book that's new to me, get it?] and thought he said it well...

"as Nature wears the smile of Spring when sinking into Summer's arms..."

because Spring makes me smile but sometimes the heat of Summer feels like a slump :)

In other news, several have asked what happened to the photos of my studio...am working on new and improved photos and will load them onto Flickr soon.  And many of you have asked why there isn't anything in my Etsy shoppe...well, that's just because life has been a flurry and oh where does the time go?  Hope to have some things up very soon.

we never know the whole story

Oh guys, we never really know the whole story of what's going on with a person do we?  I ran across these words by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow that pricked my heart.  So maybe instead of getting miffed when someone is rude or cold, maybe we could consider that they're going through something deep and painful and reach out to them.

 

On another note, I snapped this shot of a butterfly on my lilacs.  Pretty amazing when you consider it was still March when she was fluttering by my front yard (her and about 12 of her sisters).  Isn't she beautiful?  And I wish I could send the scent of these lilacs through the computer lines--divine!

 

Spring break for my kids this week and boy do they have me running--if you don't hear from me much this week you now know why.

the turning of the earth

No, not as in the rotation of the planet.  The turning of the earth as in tilling the ground...everywhere I go.  You can actually smell the dirt {yes, that's a good thing}.  It's one of the ways I know my sweet friend, Spring, is soon to visit--and believe me, here in Tennessee it's a short visit because hot, humid, swat-the-mosquitoes season comes soon behind and hangs around longer than she's welcome.

"Nothing is so beautiful as Spring" says Gerard Manley Hopkins. 

Other than the flowers blooming and birds singing, I'd love to hear how Spring makes itself known where you are.

Oh and speaking of Spring, I collected some springy-things from my studio and put them in a little collection called 'tokens of spring'.  Only a handful left in my etsy shoppe.

The little bluebird?  Well of course I know he's not real.  I picked him up (with his girlfriend, or is it wife?) at a rummage shop and thought he could use a little fresh air so he's tucked away in one of my planters outside until I bring him back in to my growing little-birdie collection.

If you can (as in it's 60 or above outside), go open some windows and let some fresh air blow through those curtains.  Fresh air is medicine to your soul {and shhhh...big secret I've discovered...it makes you more creative!--can you believe that?}
