Today, words from Anne Morrow Lindbergh...
"Only with winter-patience can we bring
The deep desired, long-awaited spring."
I am learning the art of not wishing winter away, resolving to embrace even these last trailings of it before the much-loved spring. The bare starkness of it can be beautiful if you're looking through the right eyes.
And I begin to find comfort in winter, and just enough of an inner stirring to spend time reflecting and writing and sketching art ideas. Which is good. We should stop what we're doing creatively now and then, long enough to take a breath and see how we can push ourselves a little further, set more lofty art goals. What else can I learn and do and try? This creative life is sometimes exhausting that way, but rejuvenating and healthy for us.
So make new friends with winter and take advantage of the stay-indoors time to bring new life to your creativity. There are rare and awakening surprises there.
So true Rebecca. So true. It's called being in present time. The rain, a cloudy day, has always made me feel like creating. But I grew up in Oregon,,so it's programed,,I am hopeing for a good rain storm, while spring flowers are being orderd for the stores shelves. Beautiful Post Rebecca.
God bless!

This has been my first "real Winter" as I am a Florida girl transplanted to Oklahoma this past Fall and I have enjoyed every sweet little detail.

I enjoy this time of year for many of the reasons you shared in this post. It is such a gift to make time to pause and reflect.

Yes, I found myself pinning for Spring too. But then I had to take a look at the special winter offerings: the warm inside togetherness with family, being able to turn on the oven and bake a pie or some cookies at any time without "heating" up the house, seeing through the trees to notice the birds and the squirrels and yes even the roof of the house next door before they leaf out and hide it all away, wearing scarves and gloves and even fun jackets and admiring the world in white when the snow makes its bright mark! It will be Spring soon enough...but for now, I will try to embrace the winter!
Stay Cozy, Carrie
